Smith Group UK Ltd to the Aid!

Do you have what it takes? 1 ambulance, 3 deserts, 5 mountain ranges, 10,000 miles in just 3 weeks? A challenge most of us wouldn’t even think was possible! Well, Matt McCarrick and Scott Delaney believe they can survive the adventure of a lifetime travelling a third of the way around the world with a little help from their friends at Smith Group UK Ltd, to donate an ambulance to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Leaving MediaCity UK on Friday 23rd July, the boys travelled to main sponsors Smith Group UK Ltd arriving at their head office in Kirkham to warm welcome form the team who were all thrilled to be playing a part in this epic journey. Smith Group UK Ltd are proud diamond sponsors of the Mongolian Challenge and having worked with Bovis for many years could not resist getting involved. Matt and Scott, who will be travelling to Mongolia in a custom built Land Rover Discovery ambulance, kindly took the time to deliver a presentation to the company giving a more detailed over view of what the Mongolian challenge will entail and where their inspiration stemmed from to raise money for MedEquip4Kids the beneficiary charity.

A few Mongolian Lamb kebab skewers and local fish and chip portions formed part of the entertainment laid on for the official sending off ceremony. The boys were then eager to get on the road and officially left Smith Group UK Ltd to embark on the long, dangerous yet rewarding journey to Mongolia. With such a short time schedule to reach their final destination; they will be forced to drive between 12 and 14 hours a day, with no days off to rest. Let’s hope they enjoy driving!
Once they arrive, they will donate the ambulance to Mongolia aid charities, which will enable medical teams and equipment to reach the people who live in rural areas. With Mongolia being 5 times the size of the UK and only having 1 major accident and emergency unit, one vehicle will make a huge difference to the well being of the people that live there.

Matt and Scott are volunteering on behalf of the Guvnors Club, an affiliation of Bovis, whom they are both employed by. The Guvnors Club aim to raise £20,000 to pay for a CTG heart rate monitor, a nitrous oxide delivery system and more salaries for doctors, and for hospitals within the North West region.
